Learn to dread lock on bought hair. Buy natural real hair similar to your own and practice on it. Practice how big you might want yours. When you are finished you can use your sample lock as a hair tie.

dread maintenance

Dread locks can be maintained using only a crochet needle. Maintenance can be done by yourself or by someone else. Note: the smaller the crochet needle, the tighter the locks.

The needle should poke into or through the base of the hair so that the hook of the needle pulls little loops out. This is done while the other hands index and thumb is pinching the section being poked. Twist the hair being pinched and keep poking the needle in making loops. Focus on making the dread lock look even unless lumps are intended. This style was learned in Bangkok Thailand.
