I work as a EMT-B (AMBULANCE DRIVER) and where i live there are more white people than blacks in this profession. I will no matter what still get my hair locked.
i judge people by their actions and ethics and professionalism in the workplace over what kind of personal style they have.
as a personal preference, i don’t like dreads or long hair on men but that’s just me picking someone that could be a potential mate, not as a friend or coworker.
besides, why did you lose 10 points to ask that question if you’re going to do it regardless?
I think it means that you like to have your hair out of your face.

I think everyone should do what they want. You are not your hair, sir, and don’t let them bastards put you down for being yourself.

I don’t see anything wrong with you doing that. I think, just as long as it’s neat there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it. My impression on it, is just as long as it’s kept neat and not a mess. It should be alright.

I see nothing wrong with it. It keeps the hair controlled and out of the way. I think it is a good idea. Especially in any medical profession. Dreadlocks will reduce the risk of hair falling out onto, or, worse still, into the patient. See, there is a practical need for it in your profession!!

The biggest factor for me is clean. Dread locks are not dirty and setting an example is always good. Show people that you are clean and professional — and your own person.

dread locks are cool. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Times are changing and employers aren’t as restrictive as they used to be and us regular (older) white people are desensitized to hairstyles that at one time we may have considered outlandish. Dread locks, as long as they are well maintained and if long, kept back from the face are perfectly acceptable. If you are neat, articulate, and intelligent, I’d hire ya.

I don’t see any problem with dreads if there neat and clean and with a sheen to it. If there long you need to pull them back so they wont get in the way. Otherwise get dreaded.

i don’t think there should be an impression if you getting dreads you should be treated just like everyone else…..you going there to help n serve people/they should not be worried about your hair ..their concern you should be about their health….get your dreads….

then go head and get locked as long as its neat and clean and if you act proffessional you should be treated proffessional.

Personally, I have no problem with dreads, just as long as no bugs are jumpin’ out of ‘em! I used to live in a Northern California Community that had many Rastifarians (?sp?) that took over the Health Food Stores as employees & their personal hygiene habits just weren’t there! These guys had nasty dreads, smelled, & you could actually see the bugs crawling in their hair & on their face & necks. It was gross & you they may have left a permanent stigma on the way people view dreadlocks! As long as you are hygienically correct, then the rest shouldn’t be a problem!

As I have recently embarked on my own natural journey I have faced similar questions and I have come up with the best answer…if someone doesnt want to give you a job because of your hairstyle, they arent people you want to work for…. honestly I think that neat locks are sexy on men…I love to see it…so hopefully I helped

A professional man with locs is the sexiest thing to me. If a person’s hair is well kept it shouldn’t matter what style it’s in. Rock those Locs brotha…good luck with your journey.
