Dreadlock Your Hair And Never Use Gel or Beeswax Again

Are you considering putting dreadlocks in your hair? Are you totally freaked out about how to get started.  Well let me ease your mind.  Starting your dreads does not have to be a complicated procedure like some people make it seem.  I know from experience when I put the first dreadlock in my son’s hair that it’s not complicated.  However, you must know what you’re doing or what you’re getting  into.

There are actually five ways to dreadlock your hair.  They are:

1.  Backcombing Method
2.  Gel and waxing Method
3.  Twist and Rip Method
4.  Natural Method
5.  Latchhook or Interlocking Method.

With the Latchhook method you will instantly dreadlock your hair, and avoid using gel, and wax (which ends up damaging your locks), etc.  You will never even have to use gel to retwist your growing locks ever again.   You can start one dreadlock at a time with the Latchhook Method without ever having to use gel, backcombing, beeswax, etc.  This method is instant.  You don’t have to wait 6-8 months for your hair to actually lock up.  This is one of the best ways to start and maintain dreadlocks today.

What’s really awesome about this method is that any hair type can be instantly locked with this method.  It doesn’t matter whether your hair is permed, you’re Caucasian, Chineese, Black, etc, you can use this method to lock your hair instantly.  You can start your locks with this method yourself, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

If you go to a loctitian that specializes in the Latchhook method it can cost you anywhere from $500, and even up to $1000 just to get the dreds started.  Once your hair is done, you can then maintain them on your own. Remember, not all loctitians specialize in this method.  Some are not familiar with it.  So make sure you find the right loctitian before getting started.

With the latchhook method you take your time, one dreadlock at a time, using a special tool, like the Nappylocs dreadlock tool, The Latchhook Crochet Needle tool, a twisted bobby pin, etc.  For example, What you’re doing is actually threading the Nappylocs tool with your hair and sewing your hair.

The Nappyloc tool actually looks like an oversized needle.  To actually lock the hair, you would section the hair, and then the hair is actually woven from the tip all the way to the root.  So what you’re actually doing is sort of braiding the hair backwards.

You can actually do this with your fingers and then after you reach close to the root of the hair, then you use the Nappyloc, Latchhook crocheting tool, etc to tighten the root.  You can use this method with dreadlocks of different sizes.  It can be a long, tedious start using this method, but when it’s done, what you’ll have are stronger, instant locks without damaging beeswax, and gooey gel that ends up leaving residue buildup overtime.

You don’t have to retwist your locks often, and you can wash your hair right after you’re done without worrying about the locks getting undone.  This is what I call, “The New Age of Dreadlocks!”

I want dreads but I never had them before and I was wondering how do I get them and how long does my hair have to be for at least short dreads. Basicly how do I get dreads.

just dnt comb your hair in a while.

there just basically nots in your hair from not brushing, so if your hairs lng enough to not then you can get dreads.
i think there sort of dirty to have but cuuuute at the same time.

i think that dreads look rlly cool and i’ve just recently decided that i want them, but i don’t know the processes to do it. i didn’t mean to sound bad when i said a white guy, i just don’t know if there are any differences to get dreads due to the type of hair. mine is about 3 or 4 inches right now and when it’s starting to curl, when it gets long it gets rlly curly and i wanted to try out dreads to see if that look fits me. any advice would help lol

Watch that video and other videos of him. I have read you other questions, and you mentioned that you are a red head. So is this guy in the video! It would be the perfect guide for you!

Anyways you could also search You Tube for more dread lock tutorials.

So a dread lock is basically a huge tangle. If you just stopped brushing your hair your hair would naturally form dreadlocks. If you want to control exactly where you get them I would suggest you do it your self. Or go to a salon if you wish. What you do is section a part of your hair, as big as you want the dread to be, and roll it. Now take a brush and back brush it. Like brush upwards from tip to root. Then roll between your hands.

This will make the hair tangle and "lock" to one another, thus making a dread lock. Repeat this section by section and that’s it. In the videos people say that at first it will look messy but as time goes by the dreads will become more defined and look better.

This style is a little high maintenance; I would not recommend it. But if you are willing to put up with it then ok.

If you want to see what you would look like I suppose you could always photoshop dreads onto a picture of yourself. Or go to a costume shop and try on a wig.

Good luck.

U need to do them urself and they are not "dreads". they are just locks. u wll appreciate their beauty if u do them urself.

Don’t believe what everyone says
I’m a white girl and I’ve had dreads for two years now. They’re awesome, I wash them, they don’t smell, and they’re beautiful…
You’ve got a lot of questions about dreads, so read up before you get them. These sites will tell you EVERYTHING about dreads:

I heard the hair is twisted up with bee’s wax, but I dont know. And when you want to get rid of them, do you really have to shave your head?

Ok so there is a special paste but i don’t think you have to shave your head to get rid of them. You can soak them in a strong conditioner like VO5 and comb them out. Start at the tip (the end) of the dread lock and slowly work your way to the root. Try to get the conditioner inside the middle of the dread.

I work as a EMT-B (AMBULANCE DRIVER) and where i live there are more white people than blacks in this profession. I will no matter what still get my hair locked.

i judge people by their actions and ethics and professionalism in the workplace over what kind of personal style they have.

as a personal preference, i don’t like dreads or long hair on men but that’s just me picking someone that could be a potential mate, not as a friend or coworker.

besides, why did you lose 10 points to ask that question if you’re going to do it regardless?

My last girlfriend was black and she had dread locks and looked SMOKING HOT. Do you like wearing afro puffs or dread locks?

Dread locks.

I just got my dreads started 3 or 4 days ago using the twist method and they seem to be doing fine right now(even if its only bees a few days). I know that I should be patient but I really want to help them lock up sooner!

I heard that sea salt helps…….wht else helps them lock? Them are not locked AT ALL right now -cries- What could help them……

Yes, seawater (salt water) or go to the beach if you live near one,
this will help your locks lock up so much faster, and helped mine alot when i used to go there all the time.

other than that, just leave them be,
wearing a hate (Wool tam is most preferable)
but wearing a cheap big beanie or something that doesn’t restrict movement in your hair will help alot as well if you wear them in your spare time around the house or be4 going to bed,

other than that, get some beads you like alot or peyote stichs and put them on your locks, these will help as well,

Hair sprays and rubber bands, not so much, never use rubber bands to help your locks lock up faster, one they restrict movement far too much to truly help, and if you 4get about them on a hot day (unlikely now cuz of the weather but in general) they can’t get melted into your locks or enveloped by the changing texture of your locks.
and that’s not as uncommon as you might think, I almost did it when I was trying everything that seemed like it might help in the first few months when I let my hair lock,

How long does it take to grow, and how long does it last for?
Does it hurt?
Do people think it is gross?

I’m sure its not great to turn up at, say a job interview with dreadlocks but, for temporary dreadlocks tangle you hair by brushing it botton to top with a comb and twirl strands of it into locks. use hairspray to keep it and twirl/roll the strands regularly

dreadlocks are just messy strands of hair

(doesnt hurt at all, but use lots of hair conditioner to bring your hair back to normal!)
