About Us
Gerry Carbon (Ex-Army Sargent) just recently decided that he want’s dreads too, just like his three boys. So now there are four dread heads in the house.
Gerry is originally from a small island in the Caribbean. His three boys, ages 11, 9, and 4 get their hair latched every 3 months. The only maintenance required for their hair is to wash them and put some moisturizer and oil once per week. No more palm rolling.
Prior to latching their hair, it was a headache maintaining their hair because they couldn’t get the dreads wet right away after touch-ups, and their mom got tired of palm rolling. She is now using the Nappylocs latching tool to redo the roots. As mentioned before, maintaining the three boys dreads is so much easier and cheaper than having them go to the barber every 7 days to get a haircut. Dreadlocks are beautiful once they are washed regularly, conditioned, and well-maintained.
According to Gerry’s wife, “I have learned a lot over the years about dreadlocks since I am the one that put the dreads in my boys hair. I made so many mistakes in the beginning. Beeswax was one of those mistakes. It makes the hair clumpy, dirty, moldy, and the hair attracts lots of lint.
I had to end up cutting off some hair off the boys head just to fix some of the locks destroyed by beeswax. I washed their hair several times with a Neutrogena’s non-residue shampoo, which did a great job, but still had to cut some hair off anyway. I later found out about Apple Cider Vinegar that would do that trick very quickly in getting rid of beeswax from the hair. Anyway, they all have healthy hair now…just the way I like it.”
So this blog was created to share some dreadlocks creation, and maintenance mistakes made, and other info on dreadlocks. This can help others learn from these mistakes and get on the road to beautiful healthy dreadlocks.
