About Us
My name is Vernette Carbon and I am the proud mom of three boys. I decided to created this blog for my boys. My clean-cut husband, Gerry just recently decided that he want’s dreads too. So now I have four dread heads.
My husband and I are originally from small islands in the Caribbean. Although I don’t have dreadlocks, I love to see dreadlocks on other people and I enjoyed creating and maintaining the dreads on my boys hair. I latch their hair every 3 months. The only maintenance is to wash them and put some moisturizer and oil once per week. I don’t palm roll… none of that.
Prior to latching their hair, it was a headache maintaining the hair because they couldn’t get them wet right away after touch-ups, and got tired of palm rolling. I am now using the Nappylocs latching tool to redo the roots. As I mentioned before, maintaining their dreads is so much easier and cheaper than having them go to the barber every 7 days to get a haircut. Dreadlocks are beautiful once they are washed regularly, conditioned, and well-maintained.
I have learned a lot over the years about dreadlocks since I am the one that put the dreads in my boys hair. I made so many mistakes in the beginning. Beeswax was one of those mistakes. It makes the hair clumpy, dirty, moldy, and the hair attracts lots of lint.
I had to end up cutting off some hair off the boys head just to fix some of the locks destroyed by beeswax. I washed their hair several times with a Neutrogena’s non-residue shampoo, which did a great job, but still had to cut some hair off anyway. I later found out about Apple Cider Vinegar that would do that trick very quickly in getting rid of beeswax from the hair.
Anyway, their hair are now quite healthy, just the way I like it. So I’ve decided to put this blog together to share some of my mistakes, and other info on dreadlocks.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
